I said ONE OF THE reasons, not THE ONLY reason. It's better to have all the doubts solved on forums instead of on chat box, because from 3 possibilities 1 would be correct: no one would answer a question, someone would answer the question and sooner or later the same question would be up on the chat box and the third, someone would say "use the search function". lol Originally Posted by Warlock

This is actually a perfectly valid reason. Think for a while:
If people don't have the decency of searching before opening a new thread (which your thread just proves it true), adding a chatbox will only make it simpler for them not search, fill it with hundreds of stupid questions that have already been answered. Add to that the fact that all knowledge shared on the chat is ephemeral since it quickly goes out of the spotlight and there's no search for it (even if there were, we know people wouldn't use it) and you got yourself an awful chatbox idea.
