I think what you're looking for is the waypoint size, you can edit this in the waypoint list. The node range is considered e.g if you kill a creature and you are within 4sqm of the node when it dies, it will skip the node because it's within the node range. The waypoint size being more than 1 tile means it will pick a tile at random from the tiles within the area. Keep in mind it will also try to walk into unwalkable tiles (walls, water, etc) if your node goes into one, at which point your script will get stuck.
