Depend how much is shards and tokens in your world.

The price of the shards gets lower as the event goes ok. If the event is already lost, in the same day that it was lost you can trade shards for experience with the NPC. In this day the shards price will get higher as the demand for shards exceeds the amount available. In the next day, probably (I don't remember very well), the NPC will be gone making impossible to trade shards with him.

If your world win after 4 days the shards will be priceless.

If it's at least 10k/shard then go for it.
